My pig almost always has a drippy nose and watery eyes. It tends to flare up every year about now. He has been to his vet and we have run the course of antibioatics.(I checked here on the dosages) She wants to try him on Benadryl to see if that helps him. He is not acting sick at all eating, pooping, and running around as he always does, he is just extra drippy since the weather broke.

Is Benadryl ok to give pigs I can't find it when I search?

Thank you-

Yes. Children's Benadryl (diphenhydramine) *only* -- nothing with added cough, congestion, headache, helps the child sleep, etc. etc. etc.

2. Excerpted from an email from my veterinarian to me:

"0.25 to 1 mg/lb body weight every 8 to 12 hours, so for a 2 lb cavy, you would give up to 2 mg dose. Children's benadryl liquid is 12.5 mg/5 ml (tsp), so without a calculator the top dose would be roughly 1 ml (or less of course)."

In our experience it is well tolerated over a fairly large dosage range.

You can also consider chlorpheniramine (Chlor-Trimeton). Again, buy chlorpheniramine maleate *only* -- no added sinus, cough, sleep aid, whatever:
