It has been a long road and we did lose one of our girls but we are so happy to have saved the rest of them. Remember those horrible pictures when it all began?

Bethie:
We are thinking about her A LOT. If only her kidneys would have continue to function. I think it is part of the big circle of life. But it doesn't help. We do miss her. Thanks for your kind words!
Mum:
yes they do, thanks to everyone who helped, like you. And a lot of patience and love!!!

You can appreciate how far they have come from by looking at the previous pictures in this thread. I tell you: ringworm is a powerful enemy!
have you seen on the photos here: Neige (the white one)is acting as a look out for the gang...lol

Such an improvement! I'll post a couple pics that were added to the thread here for comparison. I am so happy to see these healthy pigs!

So, if you were faced with this again, what would you do? (in other words, what do you think worked the best?)

First: DISINFECTION. each day. everything ( toys, houses, name it!
2nd: take your pig to the vet for a skin exam and sample.
3rd: Nizoral bath each week for each pig that you have
4th: Griseofulvin, the smallest dosage possible
5th: Program
6th: continue prevention and give mite treatment once a week.
7th: topical cream for fungal infection: Canestan or Monistat.
ANOTHER VET EXAM after the second/4th/ etc week or as needed.
8th: keep away the other animals to not recycle the disease.
9th: SUPPORT; Without it, it would have been way harder!
10th: Don't give up: you can win. All you need is patience time and love..Not necessarily in that order;)
I guess I did not forget anything...

tip: *Barbie* doll ( or similar size doll) socks: helps wrap paws nicely and keep those claws from scratching at the wounds.

They look beautiful. Sorry one didn't make it, but look at those beauties you fixed up! They look rather appreciative (or hungry!).

Erin and PaisCashGingGang:
the brats were waiting for their treat: while I clean one part of the cage, my husband attracts them with their favorites yumyums at the other end...lol

tracis: thank you

AND DON'T FORGET TO WEAR GLOVE AND SOMETHING OVER YOUR CLOTHES! Forgot to mention it.
I usually played on the safe side and changed each time I was finished with the pigs.

Sounds like you did everything you could. You first wrote back in December. Looks like it was a long time in healing. I hope they never have another outbreak like this. Is it okay if I add one of your two group pics to the thread? I think it would be nice to have a permanent "success" picture.

You mentioned "disinfection" first. Along with this, did you switch out the bedding? You were using fleece, no? Wash with bleach?

yes Lynx, you can use any picture I post in the forums.

You are right, each day the bedding was changed and everything washable was washed with a tad of bleach too. I still keep the habit of washing the GP's towels and fleece blankets, etc. and the cage once a week. I certainly don't want to live this nightmare again!!!
Along with that, any wood house, toys etc were trashed . New branches in each day for their teeth. better safe than sorry.

Oh! and we have a star among us,; see Vanille at :
