Hi, I am starting a new thread to tell you about Fairy.
We rescued 5 guineas (3 girls and 2 boys) at the beginning of May, they were being kept in appalling conditions. The young boy was breeding from them to sell to pet shops - ugh! The 3 girls were pregnant. Panda miscarried. Brillo and Maybe both had their babies around 4 weeks ago. I rehomed the 2 boys and earlier this week Brillo left with her baby daughter, Flash. Her other daughter, Fairy, is staying with us - she is a 'Lethal' piggy.
Talk about falling in love! She is adorable. My other 2 guineas have taken her under their 'fur', looking after her, snuggling up in their bed etc. Fairy is 4 weeks old tomorrow, she is blind, deaf and seems to have problems with her teeth. I have found a local vet who, even though she admits she isn't a specialist, is prepared to read up and do her best. She was lovely with Fairy when I took her to get her teeth checked today.
I have read the threads on the forum discussing Lethals, which have been very helpful, but I know in time I will have loads of questions and may need help and advice!
Thanks! Mildred x

Thanks again :)
I couldn't NOT rescue them, Sammianne. I heard about these guineas who were itching like mad, the woman couldn't afford the vet and didn't know about treating mites, she actually said to me, when I spoke to her for the first time, that once they got really bad she would take them to be 'pts'. I offered to treat them with my spot on drops, when I arrived at the house I was appalled. The 5 I rescued were in a 2ft hutch with nothing, just a dirty water bottle, no sign of food/hay and they smelt like they hadn't been cleaned out for a month :( I said something like, 'I can always find good homes for guineas', I am a Hedgehog Carer and have a lot of people who know other animal loving people, and before I'd finished the sentence she dumped them in a box for me to take. The son wanted to keep 3 other girls, they were in an indoor hutch and seemed a little bit better than the others, I went back for 2 more spot on treatments for them, taking hay and a care leaflet! I have to stop myself thinking about those guineas now . . .
Anyway, I got home and examined the 5 guineas, they had open sores where they had itched themselves raw, they were terribly thin, very frightened and filthy dirty. I treated them and gradually introduced fresh food, within a week they seemed so much happier with life. I bathed them using Gorgeous Guineas products, they looked like different guineas! By the 3rd week they were going out for lawn mowing duties, trotting about and enjoying life!
It was obvious 2 of the girls were pregnant, the other girl was only about 5 weeks old and the vet was sure she wasn't pregnant, but it turned out she was, she had 2 babies recently. They have all gone to very special homes with very caring, lovely people. I can't bear to think what would have happened to them if I hadn't stepped in. It makes me feel so cross . . . and sad.
I hadn't even heard of a Lethal Guinea Pig until I was describing Fairy's problems to an email piggy friend. I have read on this Forum how special they are - you are right! She is a very special little pig. I feel so much happier now I have found this forum, somewhere I can come for advice and support! Tahanks, Mildred x

| Does she make much noise? I haven't thought about how noisy a deaf piggy would be, since so much of pigs' noise is in response to something.

zaz, they are VERY loud! At least mine is. ;)
I don't know about Fairy, but Silverado loves all of his foods shredded. Ex. shredded red leaf with shredded carrots. It seems to be less work for his little teeth.
Anyone noticed that lethals also seem to have a thiner head frame? I wonder why.
Silver says, "come on over, we'll have a sniff fest!"

Thanks for your replies! Yes, she does seem to have a narrower head Cavycastle, and she IS a squeakie little girl! She loves being held and stroked. I also blow gently at her to let her know I am picking her up, I read on another post someone did that too! I scrape the maize from the cobs, that is her favourite food, but she loves her hay, grass and cereals too. She also sleeps as though she has died . . . I suppose when you can't hear anything it must be very peaceful! I think she is using her whiskers more now, to sense where the walls are, she isn't bumping into things quite so hard - I feel so sorry for her when she does that, her poor little nose, ouch!
I am dreading any health problems (which surely must come) but at least I have the vet now reading up on Lethals. I can't get a reply from the Cambridge Cavy Trust UK, or a reply to my texts, does anyone know if Vedra is still involved please?
Thanks again, Mildred x

Mildred, there are pics of Silverado on "The Journey Home". He too came from a bad situation but is now happy and healthy with Cavy Castle. He even knows her scent!
He also sleeps like that. When we first got him from the guy who had him we actually called him "Crash"! But he is more of a Silverado to match his BFF Bandit (who came with him).
Fairy is adorable!

Don't worry Lynx! Fairy is eating everything now! For a start she didn't think grass was for eating! She loves Curly Kale, parsley, celery, carrot, garden grown lettuce leaves and lovely hand picked grass (when they can't go outdoors on the lawn).
Thanks, Brenda B for the link, what a lovely set of photographs and story there! Just so sweet :) Fairy falls asleep just like Silverado!
