I have a 1 1/2 year old male named Quark. I am planning on getting some more guinea pigs and I have decided to get females since they get along with each other more easily. My vet has told me that it's a better idea to spay the females instead of neutering Quark. Can anyone tell me about their experience with neutering? I am concerned and have heard conflicting information. If Quark died from this I don't know what I would do. Please help.

Neutering is an easier surgery for males than spaying is for females.

If you have a large enough cage, pick the pigs properly and introduce them correctly, there's no reason why males can't live together.

Ditto bpatters. Every surgery has risks. Males can certainly get along with big cages and compatability. Your guinea pig is no longer a hormonal teenager so you might have reasonable luck pairing with a rescued compatible adult boar.

If you decide to have him neutered, read over the post surgery tips on the postop page. www.guinealynx.info/.html
