1 :: FEED THE RIGHT FOOD
2 :: GIVE YOUR PET A BIG, CLEAN CAGE
3 :: LINE UP A GOOD VET so you know who to call when your pet is ill.
4 :: WEIGH YOUR CAVY WEEKLY (losing weight is an early sign of illness)
5 :: KNOW THE SIGNS OF ILLNESS
I'll write some of the signs of illness down here:
If your guinea pig is ill, you need to see a vet ASAP:
Not eating
Having a difficult time breathing
Wheezing
Crusty eyes
Sneezing
Rough coat
Puffed up hair
Dull or sunken eyes
Lethargy
Hiding from you
Diarrhea
Blood in pee
Limping
Hair loss, lots of scratching
Losing balance
Pay attention to your guinea pig. If it is acting strangely (like sitting with it's face in a corner and being slow to respond to you) it may be sick. A sick guinea pig can go downhill very quickly. See a vet right away! The Emergency Medical Guide will give you and your parents more detailed information.
