I got my Guinea Pigs from a animal shelter. They are all very nice, but you can get ananimal with a desiese at rescue places. You have to be very careful about adopting from a shelter. You never really know how old they are, so don't think that they will live for years and years. I reccomend looking online for a Guinea Pig breeder near you.

ThomasJeffersom, we do not support breeding or buying from breeders on Guinea Lynx.
There are many wonderful shelters that know the rough age of the pigs (you can tell from their nails) and have done complete health checkups. I have never heard of a diseased shelter pig being adopted out.

Also keep in mind, many animals from pet shops or breeders are ill, more often than not. They are not cared for properly as money is the most important end result to the breeders and pet stores, not the health of the animal. They are often overcrowded, malnourished, have lice, mites, fungal infections, and upper respiratory infections. Males and females are often kept together, so add pregnancy to that list of potential problems.

It's always best to adopt from a shelter or rescue.

If you buy an animal from a breeder, they will just breed the poor guinea pig, or animal, over again to replace that animal that you had bought from them. DO NOT BUY AN ANIMAL FROM A BREEDER OR PET STORE!!!
