LINKS - Spinal Injuries / Paralysis

(in progress)
  • Molly
  • Dudley
Dudley, a male, suffered a spinal injury after a fall. Restricted cage size and daily Metacam (meloxicam) helped Dudley to regain normal movement again. Recovery time: 3 months
  • Piglet
Piglet, a female, was a classroom pet suffering from partial paralysis in her hind legs. The vet suspected an injury and prescribed Metacam (meloxicam), a vitamin B shot, and physical therapy a few times a day. Piglet gradually regained use of her hind legs. After two months of therapy, she was ready for a cagemate. Recovery time: around 3 months

  • [Added by Lynx] Other causes of apparent paralysis or loss of movement of the hind legs include extreme pain from stones: https://www.guinealynx.info/forums/viewt ... 63#1739563
When Blossom suddenly "lost the use" of her back legs it was the result of bladder stones. It wasn't that she couldn't use her legs but that the pain was so severe that it prevented her from doing so. She passed a couple on the way to Vedra and this relieved the pain enough to allow her to stand. The remaining small stones and grit were removed and she was walking again normally.
