Please send insight -

Our rescue pig gave birth on 12-21 to 5 babies. 2 died very quickly and another died last night. The other 2 seemed strong but have not been gaining weight, eating well, or thriving. Their eyes are now shut and almost crusty?

We have been trying to supplement every few hours for nutrition and they seem to perk up after that for a bit. We didn’t expect our pig to be pregnant and have babies so we were not prepared for this.

Is there anything we should be doing to help the babies thrive and survive?!!

Goat's milk is the only recommended milk supplement for baby guinea pigs, but you'll never find it on Christmas day.

The only thing I can think of that you could do today is to syringe them a very wet slurry of ground-up pellets every couple of hours. And keep them warm.

Do they suckle at all from the mom?
