Comments: Fiber way too low. More than 20% should be a minimum standard for pellets. Too much soy and corn. Diets like this one depend upon more supplementation of vitamins and minerals (not that great) to make the grade.

In the grand scheme of things, what exactly are wheat middlings and how good/bad/unavoidable are they?

I'll leave that to Josephine. My guess is they include chaff and leftovers from processing wheat for humans.

That'll explain wheat middlings. Not very nutritious. Dangerous? Probably not much. Healthy? Not at all.

This pellet isn't considered a top of the line pellet like Oxbow pellets or KM's but could be considered better than some feeds such as Hartz, Kaytee, VitaKraft, 8-in-1, Geisler, etc. It seems to be a plain pelleted food. Ingredients that I am concerned about are listed in bold below. I personally wouldn't feed this brand.

Pretty Pets Natural Gold for Guinea Pigs
A Genuine Breakthrough in Guinea Pig Nutrition… Pretty Pets Natural Gold contains Nucleotides which have been proven to help improve your guinea pigs immune system. A truly unique blend of Timothy Hay and Orchard Grass, this formula has no sugars like cane molasses added or cereals grains like corn or wheat middlings. Including just enough alfalfa to provide a balanced source of calcium. Contains stabilized Vitamin C and high fiber content for the ultimate health of your Guinea Pig.
