I have never found anything accurate for in-home temperature taking for guinea pigs. Right now, I have this model that I use for my husband and me.
When I try it on the guinea pigs (which I did just now, as a test), I get 96.1, 96.5 and 96.6 for three of our guys. That can't be accurate.
I wonder if this rectal thermometer would be a better option. It seems to have a lot of good reviews. With it only taking 20 seconds for a reading, maybe using it rectally would not be too bad?

Thank you both so much! And yes we ve been challanged and pushed on quite relentlessly..
You are lucky you have three, Sef, so youcan sort of compare, anyway..i ve been thinking of buying same as you have and than it needs to be similar than your pigs have:), but i dont know if this would be accurate enough..we will think of all options again and decide..
Luckily today she seems less warm. Iam too afraid of hurting her with rectal temper check..shame we re not neighbours so we could do it together:).
Of all our health problems we have following plan:
1.we need to talk with vet about futher antibiotic taking or pause
2. Win still have redness on legs..similar than Moon just red nothing else. We will try bepanthen. And you have Bepanthen(normall) or bepanthen
plus(antiseptic).. if she consumes it it wont hurt her?
We will only aplly little on legs..so not much is left to consume anyway..
Ringo loved bepanthen and once stole the tube and ate it, but nothing was wrong..he didnt tooka lot tough. I used it for his paws if he needed.
IF bepanthen wont be working..we will try antibiotic cream as ITsaZoo suggested sometime ago.
3. This is my third pig of five we had with URI (even pneumonia) and bacteria found with culture(all had stubborn infections, ignoring AB and different bacterias. I feel alwful about it. I always took care of fresh are, right temperature..i aint best at cleaning(we change bedding every day, i meant cleaning as dust in the room..but i try real hard.
Vet said hay bedding is not good. I wont lie, i agree...but..i am so afraid they wont eat blanket..i mean Winnie is chewing on things..specially her belly is hurting since AB a bit.. Irie had mixed bedding specially when he was adult and older(hay and blankets), we try blankets with Galli-he hated blankets.. And blankets did not help recover Irie and Galli.
As you know Irie somehow recovered(he onlyneeded nebulizer couple of times in life, he was feeling perfect always! Galli also had one heavy surgery(with shelter) behind him and also got stomach infection(Which was fatal i think, very sadly) but i love them always. All of them. And they knew.
HOwever, i will try to change Wins bedding, cause she doesnt recover. Cause we dont have other options. Hope she wont be eating or chewing on blankets..it would be better for legs also.
Do you have blankets or hay, Sef?
4. We will buy some termometer(will decided which one tomorrow) and try to check temperature, specially if she will get warm again. After al vet can help us out too..
So hope you can also gave us some advice about toxicity of bepanthen and bedding.
And thank you again..now i am going to Winnie and we will change entire cage with fresh bedding...and have some fun:)

On the bedding, I use a layer of towels on the bottom of each cage, and then I use these little chenille rugs on top:
Guinea Pig Cage Liner/Bed/Rug
They do a pretty good job of wicking urine into the towels below (it takes 3 of these rugs to fully line a Midwest Habitat cage, each rug placed side by side), and they are really easy to clean plus provide a soft bedding.

Thank you so much for answer, Sef.
Obviosly despite my worries(neighbours rabbit died after eating blanket:( ) i think we will have to change the bedding comppetely : s
Hear head seem wArm again despite a fact she is very happy active and eating.
I ll buy braun ear termometer tomorrow and speak to the vet if he will be willing and available cause i havent since she finnished ab treatment. I would rather not checl her temperature as this seems hard on pigs and i never did but in her case i am concerned.
And we have extreme cold here so i cant wait for spring. Sorry i feel bit down but Win is happy and we know to always look up.

If you get a thermometer, maybe start tracking her temp. Next time she’s at the vet, have them do it and get a comparison. That’s what I do with weight. I always weight before a vet visit to compare.
One time they converted pounds and grams and got the conversion wrong. I had to correct them, they were a pound off on Ruby Sue’s weight.
