Another Penis Problem

Clark has something stuck to his penis. I think it's poop, but it's really embedded. I've tried the oil and q-tip, tried soaking him in a water bath for awhile. I've pulled and probed and prodded so much that the poor guy just looks at me in horror when I pick him up. Whatever it is, it's stuck in there good. This sounds really stupid, but could the tip just be black (he's a DEW)? I don't want to be trying to pull something off that should be there. On the other hand, assuming it isn't part of his natural anatomy, what else can I do to remove it? After over an hour of fussing with him tonight, I gave up and put him back into his cage; he was quite happy to go by then.

One thing I find is oiling things up and letting them sit makes a big difference. Take a look tomorrow and see if it looks like part of him or if the offending part has softened.

By the way, could it be dried semen? I hear that stuff sticks like glue.

I guess it could be. He's currently housed alone, but near the girls. I felt really awful about it, but I tried to pull it off by hand, and that poor guy was stretched out so long....well, I just didn't know that the pigs had anything that length. It was firmly attached. I'll try again tomorrow.

Is mineral oil the best lubricant or would something else work better?

This might be a stupid question, but how familiar are you with boar penis anatomy? There is an actual "penile head", which has these little barb thingies attached to it. When the penis gets hard and they're doing the nasty, the barbs sort of separate and look like a T inside the sow. At least, this is how I understand it. When the penis is not erect, the barb-like things just sit there near the penile head, sort of like foreskin on an uncircumsized human male.

Are you sure you're not trying to scrape off part of his anatomy?

I think Erin had a decent photo of a penis-with-barb. Perhaps she could post it and you could tell if that's what you're looking at.

I'll try another visual check and try to take a picture. What's weird, is that everything is pink, except the top part which is black. And he's all white. That's why I assumed it was something that didn't belong there.

But to answer the questions, I am hopelessly ignorant about what the boar anatomy should look like. I'll try to study the pictures, too.

Now Clark appears to have a beginning case of cheilitis. I was wondering if this could have been caused by him putting his mouth down to grab some poo. Could there be a relationship? Should I think about putting some antibiotic cream on his penis too? Does cheilitis affect appetite? Poor guy...seems like he's getting hit from both sides at the moment.

Read the cheilitis page. There are several causes. Don't put antibiotic cream on his penis.
