gummy butt

I just bathed this boar from PHS b/c he had some kind of gummy substance stuck to the little "tail spot" on his rear. This was resistant stuff--using HyLyt shampoo, I washed & soaked the area 4 times and wound up cutting some of it off.

It's still not all gone. And there is some crusty stuff still on his little tailbone. Is this a medical condition? He came into the shelter alone and was housed alone, so I don't know if he was mounted by other boars.

But is boar semen that gummy? It actually feels like gum. The rest of his skin looks good and his anal sac was clean.

It's probably from his oil gland and has kind of funked up. If you have a non-abrasive hand cleaner designed to dissolve auto grease on hands, that might work.

Good luck. I've never found anything that works on grease gland gunk. My boars are the worst, Ollie's is terrible and Buddy's used to be very bad, even leaving a black flake-like deposit on his bum.

yes, the gummy pieces were black. Is there anything that can be done about this? Is it a permanent condition? He is up for adoption and I want to make sure he is healthy.

I keep them as maintained as possible, but sometimes the mechanic's goop or D'grease (for dogs and cats) works to get it off. If that doesn't work, I shave (with my #40 blade on the clippers) the area, clean it up well and wait for the hair to grow back. I have had many boars come in with awful grease glands.

Ok, thank you. I was afraid that it was something that would hinder his chances for adoption. He is such a nice pig.

I've tried all that and had no luck. So I guess my boys will just have gunky butts....

Dawn didn't work. I tried that about a year ago. Even the stuff my husband uses to wash his hands after working on the car didn't work.

I was thinking about using mineral spirits, since I love that stuff and it is cheap amd removes ANYTHING, but I wasn't sure how good it would be for the pig to smell low odor paint thinner and have it on his hair and skin. Sure, I'm in it all the time, but I worry more about the pigs.

I might try the baby oil thing, I can't imagine trying to get THAT out of his hair, though.

Put warm water on and then rub the baby oil on his butt and then comb with fea comb or pick out with fingers some hair will come out and then soap it good. I that it was wierd too but it works good.
