PENIS BIT - pics - squeamish.
Lynx, if you wish top add these to the thread go ahead.
Paddington (sob, yes my beautiful Pad) was bonding so well with this little guy Dino, who's about three months old (max age).
On Wednesday, Pad was mounting Dino quite a lot, but Dino really didn't seem to mind, honest. The next thing I know, there is an almightly scream and there is blood all over the cage.
I immediately separated, and checked over both pigs, who at first seemed fine - I could find no wound. Until I turned Pad onto his back. His beautiful long white coat was dripping in blood. I knew it was a penis bite. I popped the penis out and could find no wound - there was just too much blood.
Paddington began to fit - I do not know if this was due to shock or blood loss, but I was convinced I was losing him.
The vet saw him and said Pad had been lucky - a nip deeper and he would no longer be able to use the penis. He prescribed Baytril, metacam and Reglan as Pad was no longer pooping and said the next three days are critical - Pad would need to start clotting soon. We were having trouble with clotting as Pad kept getting randy despite being in isolation and whenever he got randy the bleeding would begin again.
So we are now at Sunday and Pad is not good. His penis appears to be infected - the only thing he will eat is newspaper (I'm not feeding it him, he's just tearing it up out of his cage!). He is eating just enough to survive and I am on critical care and probiotics with him. I'm guessing he's intolerant to the Baytril. His poops are tiny and dry (probably due to lack of food).
What concerns me most is the penis. The pics are here.
I guess vet visit is in order tomorrow.

rachelm, when Clark has his problems last year, the vet was able to put a stitch in place to keep him from having any erections but he could still pee. It wasn't perfect, but it did minimize trauma while we were dealing with the necrosis on his penis. If you want any info, email me and I can tell you what happened. I really hope that Pad is able to get past this. If you want, I can also give you info on the vet, and perhaps yours can find some info on VIN or email my vet.

- I GAVE, dammit!
Oh no, poor guy. I have no advice to offer, but I hope he gets through this. Good luck at the vets!

I think this is ok. My vet is Dr. Chris Moritz, a guy - his wife if also a vet, Dr. Christine Moritz, interestingly. The vet site is http://www.crevecoeurvets.com. The email address I have for their stuff is: epah2@swbell.net (stands for Everything Pets Animal Hospital). The issue with Clark involved a necrotic penile tip. Clark was having issues keeping it retracted which he thought might have led to the necrosis. He neutered Clark, but also put what looked like a big X across the penis opening. Clark could pee, but he couldn't fully extend the penis. Unfortunately, the stitch had to be a little loose, and Clark's penis pushed it aside after a few days. Clark was on metacam and abs for 3 weeks during all of this. Now, he's a very sedentary guy - very little humping anymore which keeps the penis inside, too. There's a hefty thread on it, I believe, with pictures of the surgery: https://www.guinealynx.info/forums/viewt ... ight=clark
I believe there are pictures of it in there, but here's one of the completed stitch, taken during surgery. Hope this helps. First, you need to get Pad's infection under control, I'd think.

I am so sorry ! I had no idea they could bite each other there, but it makes sense, considering what they were doing. I hope he gets well soon!
Yeeeoooowwcchh!!!
Rach, is Pad having trouble keeping his penis retracted? It looks like you are popping it out in the picture. I wouldn't think Clarks procedure would do any good if Pad isn't having trouble keeeping it in.
Are you cleaning it topically with anything like Betadine or Chlorhexedine? I imagine it would be the perfect place for infection in there. In fact it might be better left out, but I know that isn't possible.
If he has stopped eating, I would switch antibiotics. Remember to add probiotics.
Good luck to you and poor widdle Paddy.

I suggested that because she said that Pad kept getting randy. If he's able to keep it in where it can be protected, Clark's treatment really isn't relevent, I agree.
Rachel - are you putting any kind of ab cream on it? I would think that will help once the bleeding stops.
