I'm awaiting an ultrasound appointment for my guinea pig and depending on the results, they think it's possible she may need to get spayed, but I'm terrified of putting her through that with all the risks and stress of aftercare, not to mention the insane cost. But I want her to live!!!! I'm scared. Can someone tell me of GOOD experiences they have had with this??

There are risks to any surgery. A lot depends on the skill of the surgeon and overall health of the guinea pig.

You might want to read about Snowflake's spay:

A search of the forums will turn up experiences.

How old is she? What do they suspect? Are there any alternative treatments to a spay? What is her prognosis if you don't have her spayed? How many spays has the vet done and what were the outcomes? While there have been many successful spays, it still is a major surgery and I would proceed cautiously. Edited to say I just noticed you appear to have a skinny pig. I don't know if they are more fragile than regular guinea pigs when it comes to surgery.

Huge ditto to the advice above. I have only one experience, but it was abysmal.

They can be very successful. Do all the research you can, and investigate any and all alternatives before you decide, would be my advice.

My very best to her and to you.
